About Me:

I am a wife, mom of 3 teenagers, and I love to read. I do not limit myself to one genre, but do have some that I prefer. Depending on my mood I will choose a book from RomCom, Romance, Dark Romance, Suspense/Thriller, YA, NA, and SciFi/Fantasy. I would love to share the books I read with you so that you may enjoy them too!

It takes so much courage for an author to put their work out there for the public to read. Then to subject themselves to the opinions of those readers. You will not find disrespectful reviews on this page. Even if a book is not for me, it may be something someone else enjoys. I will not belittle or be nasty to any author, regardless of subject matter. No bashing of person or writing will be tolerated.

My goal by creating this blog is to help authors get their books noticed and to help introduce readers to authors they may not usually read.

Also, please note that any links contained on this website I DO NOT profit from. I do receive advanced reader copies of some of the books I review, but I promise to never let that sway my true feelings on the piece of work.

I am willing to help out as many authors/PAs/promotion companies as I can, but please know that my calendar doesn't always allow for a certain time frame. Please feel free to contact me and I can see if I am able to help. This is a one woman show ;) You can visit my Facebook Page (Like/Follow) at https://www.facebook.com/Reading-Escape-Reviews-279044492594921/ and my email is readingescapereviews@gmail.com

Thank you for stopping by! Oh, and be sure to get on the 2017 Goodreads Reading Challenge. I will be asking periodically for your actual and goal number!

BUY (FREE WITH #KINDLEUNLIMITED):

Guzzi Duet, Part One
Cara Rossi’s life has been a mess ever since her identical twin was killed. She blames the mafia, its ways, and the people within the caustic culture for a painful reality that turned her world on its side. In an attempt to momentarily pause her misery, a night out puts her on a path with a man she shouldn’t get involved with simply because of his last name—Gian Guzzi.
He’s the kind of man that makes it hard to say no.
Gian Guzzi’s problems are piling up fast. A murdered grandfather, an unpredictable mafia, and a new boss that threatens both his family’s legacy and his life. As a Cosa Nostra underboss, Gian has a duty. First to la famiglia, and only then to himself. In the midst of the violent uncertainty that has become unrelenting in his days, Cara Rossi should only be a distraction for him to enjoy.
She’s a happiness that he was never allowed to choose before.
His lies. This life. Their love.
It all unravels eventually.

First off, the cover of Unraveled is what got my attention.  Let's be real, the cover model is yummy, and then  the gold writing just caught my eye.  I had never read a mafia romance so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect.

If you've read any of my reviews, I don't like to give spoilers.

I loved Cara.  She started out very weak, which was understandable for her circumstances.  However, as she became more involved with Gian, she found her strength.  Gian, he was what I would consider a mafia stereotype.  He was what I would have imagined him to be.  He had his business side, but then was a different person towards Cara.  He made choices that I'm not sure he really wanted to have to make, but were necessary.

The romance scenes were hot. I'm a bit concerned for Cara and Gian's video hobby, I'm thinking this could come back to haunt Cara.

Overall, I felt the book started off a bit slow.  However, there was a lot of back story we needed to have in order to follow what was currently happening.  Unfortunately, by the end there were still a couple of issues I still felt were unresolved.  I look forward to seeing how Bethany-Kris addresses these in the next book.  There is a cliffhanger at the end of Unraveled, so beware.  I'm giving Unraveled 4.5-stars based on the slower beginning of the book.  Also, when things started to heat up on the Cosa Nostra side, I felt there could have been a few more spins put on things.  I will say that I am ready for the next book though, because I have to know how things play out for Gian and Cara, and finding out who ordered certain hits (sorry to be vague, but...spoilers).
